Sold for £16 million by Northampton Borough Council sold to help fund a museum extension. Egyptian statue of scribe Sekhemka and his wife Sitmerit is now subject to an export ban ..... donated to the museum by the Marquess of Northampton in 1870. Not sure what to make of this, I'm sure this won't be the first or the last .....needs must?
